Zingiber sirindhorniae NEW!
New and locally endemic species, known only from a few karst limestones in North-Eastern Thailand. It is probably the smallest zingiber species in cultivation, with wiry stems and the most tightest clumping habit we have ever seen among gingers. Imagine that they can be grown, spread up to 20 stems in a 6" pot and bloom on top of every stem. Flowers are also very striking in purple light to dark purple speckled with white. These colors cannot be seen in other species of the genus, making it named after Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn of Thailand.
Despite growing in limestone crevices, it has proven to do perfectly fine in regular potting mix (neutral pH to a little acidic). Rhizomes are easily stored over winter until late spring.
Offered are divisions, established in 4" pot
