Hedychium longicornutum NEW!
Also called "Hornbill's Ginger" It is a rare and unusual epiphytic ginger from Peninsular Malaysia. The striking flowers are a wild composition of orange and red with twisted and spiked petals embraced by long arching cream-colored stamens. Definitely an eye catcher! Can grow to approx. 4-5 ft. tall.
It is fairly easy to grow with adequate light and attention to watering, preference for a full to partial sunlight growing space and tolerance to periodic dryness. It blooms last about a week with individual flowers from each shoot arriving over several weeks.
When the flowers are all spent, cut off the stem to allow the plant s energy to direct towards the rhizomes. Keep the foliage well tended until it dies back, as it will keep collecting solar energy to store for the next season s bloom.
Offered are divisions, established in 6" pot
