Plagiogyria adnata NEW!
Plagiogyria adnata is a specie in the genus Plagiogyriaceae, a closed-related genus to Brainea insignis, however none species of the genus form upright trunk above ground, instead they produce large creeping rhizomes, resembling trunks underground and rise fronds at suitable positions. Plagiogyria adnata is the beautiful one, with colorful red-pink new grow like the Brainea before developing to rich green, sturdy and leathery fronds. The tassel spore-bearing fronds usually densely rise above the regular fronds, creating elegant appearance.
In nature this fern occurs on opened slopes at high elevation. Despite getting direct sun, cool temperature and mist protects leaves from burnt. In cultivation it also needs similar condition like this; high light level with intermediate conditions. Does best in peat-based medium with additional of perlite and vermiculite.
