One of the most spectacular specie of the genus Melastomataceae, derived from primitive dense forest of Papua New Guinea. Its deeply veined leaves can grow to 10" long and have burgundy undersides which enhance the bright pink flowers that are borne in thick clusters directly on the stems of the plant.
Because of its semi-epiphytic habit, great care should be taken in choosing a light freely draining potting medium, and keep fairly dry between watering. This specie is considered one of the easier medinillas to maintain in a home environment, or can definitely grown as a stunning accent in a shady humid greenhouse.
