Our selection of ant ferns consists of several lecanopteris and some microgramma species. These are real epiphyts occur in lowland rain forest up to montane forest at nearly 2,000 m. elevation. They carpet large space on upper branch, live together with ants who provide protection and nutrient to this plant in return. However, in cultivation these ferns do not need ants! Supplement nutrition can be maintained by feeding the slow-releasing fertilizer every 3 months. It is enough and safe for for their soft rhizomes. Another major key to success is perfect air movement and fairly dry compost, as the rhizomes are sensitive to overwatering.
