Nephrolepis is a genus of mostly large ferns. Also called "Boston fern", which is its more common commercial name. Generally they are hardy and fast growing ferns, despite the fact that there are a few species have slow growth. They do exceedingly well under light shade, both in direct soil and regular potting mix. Some species, however, are more suitable for hanging basket, especially the ones that have long lacy frond.
The most important tip for this fern is keeping the medium fairly dry all time. This promotes growth and stimulate the plant spreads faster. It accepts all types of fertilizer, but from our experience adding regular 13-13-13 or 16-16-16 Osmocoat seems to work best.
Once it grows in oversize, it's wise to refresht by trimming the old leaves and propagating by simply divide their root ball into small pieces.
