Pyrrosia or someone call "Tongue fern" is a wide spread genus of epiphytic fern occurs throughout tropical-subtropical climate. Some are hardly winter ferns, others make decorative basket. Fern lover always fascinated by its succulent frond in various shapes that brownish underside. Some climbing grower such as pyrrosia lanceolata or pyrrosia pilosellordes, have long spore-bearing frond rises above the regular round frond.
Generally this fern needs very airy soil and allow its rhizome lay on surface. Burying too deep results in rotting. Mount growing on slab of tree-fern is recommended for species restricted to cliff, particularly pyrrosia lingua. It needs humidity from air, so provide good air movement and lapse between watering is the key to success.
Although they seem to be an easy fern, there're some species, mostly from dense evergreen forest that requires different condition from others. For example pyrrosia nuda, pyrrosia penangiana and pyrrosia floccigera need extra humidity and constantly high humidity to grow well.
